i'm looking for a unicorn of a catholic parish in chicago. snowflakes inside.
i'm moving to chicago (bucktown/wicker park/ukrainian village area) and am in search of a really great Catholic church. ideally within walking distance or an easy el trip from the damen stop. definitely nowhere ultraconservative, and hopefully someplace that emphasizes catholic social teaching and the poor. however, i'd also really like someplace with beautiful, reverent, and traditional masses. also, not looking for a church serving one ethnic/immigrant community in particular (i.e.a church specifically devoted to the polish community.) above all, i'm searching for a kind, tight-knit community with caring priests. thank you!

Came here to say St. Pats, it’s the most liberal Catholic Church in Chicago.

Best answer: Would Holy Name Cathedral fit the bill? I've never attended in person, but I loved the vibe of Cardinal Cupich's online Masses (which I streamed during high-COVID). The cathedral is beautiful, music is traditional, but you also get homilies about racism and poverty. To get social justice and welcoming where I live in Michigan, I have to attend a parish with tambourines.

Very inclusive and welcoming community, LGBTQ+ friendly, pretty tight-knit. About a 10 minute walk from the Clinton stop on the blue line.
