Need help finding a TV with specific wants.

I'm back home from surgery and want to treat myself to a TV in my living room, but am having trouble and am overwhelmed at all the options. I have specific wants.

I have an Apple TV buried somewhere from a couple of years ago, so I'm fine with a "dumb" TV that works with Apple TV and meets my wants:

-Supports AirPlay
-Has HDMI ports so I can connect my Apple TV and connect my Nintendo Switch to play
-55" ideally
-$500-650 ideal price range
-No lag/stutter when playing games or high motion movies
-4K ideal over 1080p

This TV comes very close, but does not support AirPlay.

Will be using the TV mainly for movies, TV, and gaming.

Bonus points if an accompanying compatible stand can be suggested as well.

(BTW, surgery itself went well. They found a softball-sized tumor/mass in my stomach, yikes! Said not the whole tumor itself was cancerous, some was inflammation. That would explain so many of the stomach issues I had over the last couple of years. Am at home, still pretty in pain, but recovering. My hospital stay itself was much longer than average, as I had some issues recovering, but no ostomy needed, thank goodness. Still waiting for the pathology results so we can determine whether or not chemo's needed. My mom's with me until early this week.)

I think my dad has that TV and loves it but I’ll say that I recently bought The Frame tv refurbished from Amazon and while they have been as good as possible on helping me get it returned, it is such a freaking headache to send it back that there’s no way I’ll ever buy such a large item online again if I can’t return it in store

Best answer: Since AppleTV supports AirPlay, it wouldn't seem necessary that it also be built into the TV here. You should be able to simply set the TV's input to your AppleTV and then AirPlay to that with any HDMI-compatible TV.

Some of the TCL with Roku models support Airplay.

They're generally highly regarded for the dollar. I have one of the 4K models that was around $350 on special and have not had any problems with lag but I don't game on it.

Really? On that model's link, the Q&A says that the model does not support AirPlay, so I thought that would apply to Apple TV, too. Is that not the case? Are you saying that if I switch to Apple TV mode, it would work through the Apple TV "mode" on the TV, even if the TV itself does not support AirPlay?

Yep!

Response by poster: Ordered the same TV listed as in the original model. That was my initial worry. Thanks!

I dont have any advice re: a TV, but wanted to say I'm really glad to hear your surgery went so well, dude, and hope the pain eases quickly. We'll be keeping you in our thoughts as you wait on the path report.

I too wanted to wish you a speedy recovery and confirm that AirPlay is a function of the AppleTV and not the TV itself. I can use AirPlay on my 17-year old Toshiba dumb TV. Which I will miss when I need to get a new one

Stay strong!

Another AirPlay on an older TV here; I have a 2009 Vizio in the living room with zero smart functions, hooked to an Apple TV. AurPlay works a treat via the ATV box.

Similarly, we have a very dumb TV with a Roku stick plugged into it. I can AirPlay to the Roku, to display on the TV, with the TV not caring where the image and sound originally come from.

Glad the surgery went well!

Nothing to say about the TV, but so happy you're recovering!
