sel fou where are you?

When I lived in france they had this delicious seasoning called sel fou. It's sort of like a french adobo. Does anyone know where I can buy it in the U.S. or order it over the internet?

I used to put it on everything. My daughter is addicted to it too. We've lost our french connection and flying to paris to pick of a 1 euro thing of crazy salt just doesn't seem sensible. Anybody know where I can get it?

Much love.

Sel fou is just sea salt with herbs and spices, so I imagine that any of the great NYC gourmet groceries would have it or something like it.

You might also consider the Herbamare line of salt-with-extras, which is widely available.

You can easily make it yourself: it is a mix of Guerande salt (or any good coarse sea salt), black, red, green and white peppercorns, paprika, and coriander seeds. Here in England you can find ready-packed spices with the same ingredients, but they aren't called sel fou; maybe your local supermarket has some in disguise?

I may be remembering wrong, but doesn't Fleur de Sel sell their own salt blends? You may want to try there, if you're nearby.

You might also try Aphrodisia.

They're Italian, not French, but I really like the sea salts available at Buon Italia in Chelsea Market (9th Ave @ 15th St.). You might also check around at Balducci's, Garden of Eden, etc.

Also, I think you might be able to order some here.

Seeing as "sel fou" is crazy salt, maybe the American equivalent (which is salt with herbs) will pass.
