Nintendo Switch game most like the Dreamcast's Skies of Arcadia?

So I just bought a Switch kind of specifically to play Breath and Pikmin, but I really loved Skies of Arcadia, and I'm hoping to relive that fast-paced, turn-based gameplay.

There has actually been rumours about a Skies of Arcadia remake on Switch, but nothing has been announced, and the Switch is getting pretty long in the tooth.

Maybe something like Tokyo Mirage Sessions (which is a Persona cross-over/spinoff) or maybe Ruined King (which is in the same world as the Arcane TV series)? The Xenoblade Chronicles series isn't strictly speaking turn-based but it's not button-mashy; all three are on Switch (although I find the character designs of 2 pretty off-putting).

Persona 5 has pretty fast paced turn based combat, although the dungeons themselves are pretty long. It's definitely worth a try if you've never played a Persona game before as lots of people love it (I preferred Shin Megami Tensei 5 but it's pretty hard)

Best answer: Dragon Quest 11 might be a good one for you. I personally much prefer Dragon Quest Builders 2 (game of the year 2018!) but although it has fast paced combat it is not turn really turn based and is all about crafting and building your way out of trouble.

You also might investigate the various Atelier games available on Switch, which have a kind of combo turn based combat and puzzle sort of hybrid gameplay.

I am Setsuna is a deliberately retro feeling callback jrpg which you might find quite satisfying, I had a good time playing it but stalled near the end from annoyance with its dedication to game mechanics I was happy to move past decades ago.

Dragon Quest XI is godlike and probably what you're looking for, a traditional turn-based JRPG.

Valkyria Chronicles was made by the same developers of Skies of Arcadia but its battle system is different, it's more of a RPG/RTS/3rd-person cover shooter hybrid.

Response by poster: Dragon Quest XI sounds like it will scratch that itch. Thank you!
