Looking for a very thick, solid trench coat

What are some high quality trench coats that have thick fabric that will keep me dry but also keep me warm? My old, thick trench coat is to fray and come apart, and I'd like to get a new one. I considered buying a Burberry trench coat, but I put one on, and it was actually very thin and not one I would want to wear for colder days at all.

Many years ago while in Germany, I bought a black double-breasted trench coat that I really loved (pic). I was very thick and padded which made it great for colder days. The it had a quilted inside lining (see here). All the trench coats I've seen from high-end brands seem to have thinner fabric, but I want one that thicker.

Seriously, I'd try a vintage shop. Or a bunch of vintage shops. In Chicago or Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Or your local Army-Navy store. If it's to be had, you'll get it A LOT cheaper there. Like $$$hundreds.

Consider Drizabone.

Twill trench coats like those from Burberry (or, cheaper and stateside, London Fog) do sometimes accommodate detachable, zipped-in wool or synthetic fleece liners (see e.g.), which add warmth on top of the outer shell's water resistance.

Army surplus is the way to go.

Vollebak makes a gorgeous waterproof trench coat. It says it's warm but doesn't look thick to me. They're very good at answering questions quickly and have free returns, even on sale items like this coat. I've never been hit with customs when ordering their stuff either. It's available in tan or black.

If Manasquan, NJ isn't too far for you, there's a medium-large men's clothing consignment shop there that [when I have visited] has had a good selection of trench coats. It is called "Men's Consignment."

I had a beautiful raincoat with a zip-in wool lining. Warm, dry, versatile. Not sure who makes them now.

If you're going the army surplus route, you may want to search for "greatcoat" instead of trenchcoat. Like this (but unfortunately out of stock).
