Seek lightweight but warm blanket

My beloved retro Vellux blanket has died. I can't replace it with another Vellux blanket because the ones they make these days are poor quality. What reasonably budget-friendly blanket might be a doable replacement?

I liked Vellux because it was lightweight and yet warm. Microfiber and fleece don't seem to float the way Vellux does - they seem clingy, instead. I don't like the pressure of a heavy blanket on my feet. Comforters don't work because I need layers to toss off and put back on to cope with my moody body temperature. Do you have a blanket you love that fits what I'm looking for?

How long ago did the quality change? I just checked eBay and they had some vintage ones still in the package that were dead stock. I would look for used ones, there must be plenty of older people who have had lightly used ones for guests, and as they age these will find their way to charity shops and eBay.

If you are a Costco member, Costco has some for sale.

I hate a heavy blanket that clings but need to be warm in winter. Recently bought the Threshold brand Velvet Diamond Stitch Quilt blanket at Target. Love it.

I was tempted by the Cozy Chenille Bed Blanket (Threshold also) too. That may be more along the lines of what you’re looking for?

I hear you—they'll pry my late-90s vellux from my warm dead fingers.

First: The Vermont Country Store has something called "Classic Vellux" blankets, and looking at the fabric content, they might be the same! They have a good return policy, too.

The "Vellux Original Blanket" at Costco mentioned by coberh might also be a good match, and Costco has a great return policy.

Your next best bet is vintage vellux; which means setting up alerts on ebay and/or going to estate sales.

My new bedding preference is a twin-size duvet with a sheet-like duvet cover. It's huggable, tossable, and easy to throw on/off as my body temp changes through the night. IKEA sells them, though you might want to visit an IKEA to actually touch the duvet covers: some are stiffer than others.

pairofshades: Vellux switched to microfiber fleece for their blankets sometime in the early 2000s.
