What is this song?

I sometimes get a song in my head that I sang in middle school choir. I think it was called “Homeward Bound’ and is NOT the Simon and Garfunkel song of that name. Nor does googling it bring any results. I went to middle school in Nebraska circa 1982-83. The sheet music we used was the store bought glossy kind you can buy in music stores. Lyrics under the cut. It has a soft melodic sound in my head, like a hopeful ballad. Does anyone know what this is from?

Lyrics I remember:

So light my light
I’m on my way
Oh, I’m homeward bound
Yes, I’m homeward bound

The morning brings
A brand new day
Wait for me (wait for me)
Soon I’ll be (soon I’ll be)
Ho-o-ome.

Response by poster: No, that’s not it (Mormon Tabernacle Choir) but good try. Thank you!

I think it came later than your stated time window, but your lyrics reminded me of Beverly Craven - Promise Me.

I am probably on the wrong track, but the second verse really reminded me of Van Morrison's Brand New Day. Don't ask me why. But a distant possibility?
