Kia Telluride vs. Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai owns about 1/3 of Kia, and the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride share many features. Both cars are very had to find on the lot--the Telluride has a monthslong waiting list, and the Palisade is just not arriving at dealers in quantity (though no waiting list if you find one). We think we want one or the other, but are unlikely to get a chance to do a real test drive comparison. Have you experienced them both? Any reactions to share?

We're not car people, but these two seem to do what we need them to do. A lot of the comparisons online are from gear heads that often emphasize differences that don't mean anything to us. These are just going to be family haulers.

I am aware that here in MA, Kia has disabled the remote features on the Kia app in reaction to MA's right to repair law, while Hyundai has not. TBH, this difference--and not having to wait literally 10 months for a Telluride may be enough to get us to buy the Palisade.

However, I did get to sit inside a Telluride (but not the Palisade) and the interior layout did seem to make more sense in the Kia--buttons were where they should be and a gear shifter instead of the button shifter thing in the Palisade (which I don't get how to use). But I've only seen photos of the Palisade interior so can't speak from experience.

Have you driven both? Even sat in both? Which would you pick? Which did you pick? As noted above, input from non-car people is encouraged! Thanks!

Just make sure you don't buy a pre-2022 model of either of these. Rental car companies won't even let you drive one of them to Milwaukee anymore, and the technique is growing in popularity and spreading around the country.

Never driven or sat in either, but I do enjoy window shopping for cars on the internet.

These articles (from sources that are much more general-interest than gearhead) strive to find some difference between two cars that are very, very similar (tl;dr, they both prefer the Telluride, but for different reasons).

If I were going to buy one or the other, and price/value was a significant factor, I'd probably get the Telluride (it seems to have more standard features at the lower trim levels). If I were going to buy the fancy one, I'd probably get the Palisade (it seems more focused on comfort, though I'd be tempted by the Telluride's optional sage green Nappa leather interior).

Another thing you might consider is the dealer experience--I've heard very mixed stories about Hyundai/Kia dealerships, and, if you buy one of these, you're probably going to be interacting with them for the next 5 years/60,000 miles or more.

Both of these cars have a very serious recall and stop sale
I think if the car doesnt have a hitch it should be ok, but I have not done enough research to know if this is true. I also dont really like the idea of having to clarify that when you go to try and trade in/sell in the future.

I see a lot of the Tellurides around here, from the outside they look nice, but I was not impressed at the price for the interior which seems to be a lot of plastic. This might be a me problem and not a you problem though.

I like to recommend searching "[car model] host:www.caranddriver.com". Car and Driver magazine does fairly objective (in my opinion) reviews and in addition they take some cars and keep them in a "fleet" for 40,000 miles reporting on them over that timeframe so you get an idea of whether those cars go downhill quickly or hold up.
