Biden student loan forgiveness...does marriage change it?

Thanks in advance. Very quickly, a friend would qualify under current income for the student loan forgiveness. However, he got married this year and their combined income is too high. Can he still get any relief? Should they file as married filing separately?

Best answer: Forgiveness is based on the lower of your incomes in 2020 and 2021. 2022 is not relevant. If your friend qualified in 2020 or 2021 then he is all set.
