Best answer: The song is "It's Been a Long, Long Time" (I "just knew" that), and according to the Shazam app on my phone the band is Harry James and His Orchestra (but I'm not 100% confident about that - Shazam will occasionally mis-identify similar recordings of the same song, and this could be a different big band's recording).

Best answer: I asked the Google assistant on my phone to "Identify a song" and it gave me this track that sounds pretty spot on.

Best answer: That is definitely It's Been A Long, Long Time, and it's definitely Harry James and His Orchestra. I listen to A LOT of big band.

I highly recommend the Shazam app.

Best answer: More specificially on the "how," there's technology out there that can analyze sound picked up on a microphone and identify music based on that. Apple acquired the company that made one such app, and now the tech is baked into Siri. A simple "Hey, Siri, what song is this?" will get you your answer. (And, as mentioned in the comment above mine, you can do something similar on Android phones.)
