What was this solitaire variant?

My grandmother (Polish, lots of Russian and German cultural influences in childhood) used to play this solitaire variant when I was a kid, but she stopped at some point and now neither of us can remember the exact rules. I've spent far too long in lists of solitaire / patience variants and nothing's ringing a bell. The one thing I do remember is that you laid out cards in 8 columns, of which 4 were face-up, and the first few (how many? possibly 4?) rows of the other 4 were face-down.
I literally don't recall anything else including whether it was played with one deck or two, whether aces went to the top if uncovered, whether there was a "boot" of unused cards, what were the rules for moving cards. I do remember it was significantly harder than Klondike, which she also played.

Scorpion was my thought as well. But, it is the opposite in terms of face up/face down. And it's only seven rows IIRC.

Response by poster: Scorpion looks very close in layout! I recall she played it with slightly easier rules, where you deposit each suit above the playing field starting from the exposed aces, as in Klondike. Misremembering the number of columns would explain why we weren't able to recreate it. (And yeah, the face-down columns came first.)
