Why is there no 3rd party Miracast sender for OSX with no Airpla

Although there is Airplay for Apple devices, this has been removed from Monterey for devices just a few years old. Why has no one developed a 3rd party Miracast driver for OSX? I have a Web3.0 LG TV and no way to connect my Mac book, except by running a loose cable across the room.

If I understand what you're asking (maybe not?), it's not removed, it's just hidden, for some weird (and frustrating!) reason - go to Settings-Displays and then in the bottom left corner you should be able to choose your display.

Response by poster: Lenny, you need OCLP to enable Airplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO0yc3_hOE8

Use an Apple TV?

Maybe this software works? It sounds like it might be a driver for macOS. That being said, I don’t make any claims of safety or functionality regarding it…

I don't understand the changes made for the seamless screen-sharing and pointer/keyboard integration due in Monterrey (and incomplete so will be piecemeal in updates) -- sorry.

Something Apple does periodically to some of their users is to cut functionality that you rely on. That sucks. I think the following is a poor suggestion but it may be you need to roll back to Big Sur while it still has security updates. (I don't expect oceanjessie's suggestion is for everyone, but I'm considering adding an AppleTV to my smart TV to be the smarts while it has security updates, because my 2015-era Android TV no longer has updates.)

You can try airbeam.tv -- it claims to support all LG TVs from 2012 forward. They have a receiver app in the LG app store.

As to why there's no Mac support, my understanding is you'd need a dongle of some kind because Miracast needs hardware level support for WiFi Direct (which Apple controls so far as the onboard wifi is concerned).

Response by poster: Snuffleupagus. Good find. Seems the answer is that Miracast needs that hardware level support, which Macs don't have. The solution seems to be AirBeam.tv with a matching app on the TV to go with it; THANK YOU for that!

Sadly, it lags 3 seconds and I can't figure out how to get the screen resolution up. Because I can't get the resolution up, I can't really use it for video and the lag seems to make it useless for the desktop.

I _can_ use it with zoom, by sharing a virtual monitor via a blank hdmi dongle... however, people's reactions delayed by 3 seconds makes me wonder if maybe it's better without this.

I have one usecase left, which is to put things there to one side when I'm not using them, as it's slightly quicker than switching virtual desktops.

So, thanks for all your help, but it seems the end result is pretty useless :(
