PHP file manager?

I'm looking for a PHP file manager to act as an extranet...

I need an application I can install that will act as a simple, easy-to-use extranet. This is for a small business -- the files in question will mostly be word docs, spreadsheets, PDFs, etc. It would allow uploads and downloads, store comments about files, etc. User management is a plus. Free is not required.

Any thoughts?

If you just need a place for multiple people to dump files perhaps StrongSpace is the way to go. Alternately I have done business with SwapDrive as well. I like the StrongSpace interface somewhat better but it's the same thing.

If you want less storage but more person-to-person interactivity the same company has this Joyent stuff.

How many users?

It sounds like a mix between Gallery and File Thingie, or a dozen other applications that do one half of what you want, but not the other. If there's anything that does file management, user management, and commenting, I'd also find that useful.

Phearlez, you noticed that crickets specifically asked about an app to install locally, not a hosted app, right?

Crickets, I haven't found a good, durable PHP file manager app that I like, and I've looked quite a bit. File Thingie used to be my choice, but it has its own set of issues, and it doesn't work on PHP 5.

I'll keep my eye on this thread to see what I've missed....

scottreynen: Owl does all three. I dislike the user interface but it's a simple CSS job to re-skin it.

Thanks, blag. I'll look at it.

I saw the word install but its use seemed pretty generic; since s/he said free wasn't a necessity I interpreted it generously. It's been my experience that most people aren't aware such services exist...

Apologies if I interpreted wrong, crickets
