How do I start advertising my YouTube channel?

I've been working on a YouTube channel for a pretty unique and specific community. It's starting to make an impact. I have some engagement. Especially giving all the things going on right now, I want to turn turbo charge the growth to build this community faster. I'm willing to spend some money to promote this because this is for a good cause. I did some googling and found a bunch of services - but who knows if they're legit. Does anyone have any experience advertising a youtube channel? How did you go about it?
My advertising experience is limited to boosting a FB page - but that didn't really do much.

Grow your audience by doing what you say you want to do very well. Tell your current fan base to subscribe and recommend you to their friends with similar interests. Plus any searches for videos with similar content will yield a list you will likely be on and if you're "likes" are up with the number of viewers that will also grow your viewership. But to specifically advertise you may need to do some Facebook pages that "Boost" your page by posting ads of you to your facebook friends list. Its a pretty well tried and successful marketing strategy that only cost you a few dollars a month. Whatever you are venturing to do best wishes for a prosperous journey.

Best answer: Hey a few things to do as a Youtuber:
1. Focus on content and keeping them watching: Are people looking at your whole video. Do you have a kick ass intro? Once the video is ending do you have a related video for people to go after? Is you B-roll great?
2. Focus on optimization: You can use a tool like TubeBuddy to help you rank higher (SEO). Save time, and also do thumbnails. To be fair there's also VidIQ but I use the former.
3. After #1 and #2 are done...focus on distribution. Distribute your channel to related FB groups, twitter, etc.
4. Only after #1-#3 are done I would do pay things. I would have other creators come on my content and if possible have them distribute (if free better). You can try YouTube ads targeting bigger channels on the same niche.
5. After all of the above I would advertise or pay agencies and things like that.

Let's assume your content is good and you are not an idiot and already ask your viewers to like and subscribe. a) Make sure you are using the topic of your channel (let's say D&D) in every video: "Campaign Strategy No-Nos in Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)" because title keywords count. b) Make sure you use topical playlists and always push related content.
But yeah, you are going to max out on purely organic audience.
But to specifically advertise you may need to do some Facebook pages that "Boost" your page by posting ads of you to your facebook friends list. You do not want to advertise to your friends, you want to advertise to people who are interested in the topic of your channel content. And it isn't "a few dollars a month" anymore. The Facebook ad interface is also much more complex than it was when that became the "tried and true" method. The YouTube ad platform is easier but also spendy. I don't know what the topic of your channel is but I would think about a) doing some Reddit ads on your own (it's very straight forward); b) moving into Facebook and Reddit ads with pro help, by which I mean someone off of Fiverr.
