Need playlist for yelling while hanging laundry
November 21, 2021 10:28 AM   Subscribe

Please send me songs I can listen to while being sad, angry, frustrated, and challenged to find places to hang four loads of damp laundry all over my apartment. A podcast won't cut it. (Later, I will have dinner and reward myself by continuing to read Elizabeth Gilbert's The City of Girls. Later, I will complete the stress-response cycle by exercising. But right now, I have to hang up this nightmarish amount of laundry.)

Right this moment, my life is shit. It won't be tomorrow because tomorrow will be better. But right now I am dealing with the sorrow of my inability to rescue people I love from the symptoms their mental illness AND my huge, enormous, overpowering frustration and anger that I volunteered to help with laundry for the grandkids and did four loads of laundry and THEN THE FUCKING DRYER WAS SHITTY AND SO WAS THE DRYING CABINET AND I JUST CAN'T EVEN.

Your suggestions are much appreciated. xo

A classic I enjoy shouting angrily along with: "Sabotage", by the Beastie Boys.

Would you try some unusual genres?

Speed Metal: "Through the fire and flames" by Dragonforce

Symphonic Metal: "The Greatest Show on Earth" by Nightwish (note: this is 20+ minutes long)

Eurobeat Mix by various artists (45 minute mix)

Kill Culture, The Hate.

This is the best song ever; I have no clue why it has like no views.

Van Morrison tends to calm me down.

If you can get your hands on a dehumidifier, it will help immensely with the laundry problem.

HUGS!!

The Taxpayers ”God, Forgive These Bastards: Songs from the Forgotten Life of Henry Turner" sometimes works for me. (Edit: also, sympathy and best wishes.)

Million You Never Made by Ani Difranco takes a bit to get to the raging, but it’s a good screamer.

How do you feel about punk? I just realized there's a new(ish) Rise Against record out, and I have been appreciating The Numbers.

Not ragey, but engrossing enough to get me out of my head if I need it: Halfway Home by TV on the Radio!

I sometimes think part of the reason Bleachers' "I Wanna Get Better" was such a hit was because you could yell along with it and convince yourself things would indeed get better.

Can't believe I'm the first to get to The Mountain Goats This Year, surely an entry in the Great Terrestrial Yelling Songbook.

Am I Ever Going to See Your Face Again. By the Angels. You have to sing/yell the unofficial callback after each verse of "No way, Get fucked, fuck off" for the therapeutic rage effects to work.

Put these ones toward the end of your playlist, when the endorphins are kicking in:

Tear it Down by Major Love

The Fool, Part 1 by Shad

Through and Through and Through by Joel Plaskett

And, for collapsing in a weary heap at the end, The Year Things Fell Apart by the Golden Seals

Radiohead's Paranoid Android is my go-to for pain and shouting and singing at vocal cord-shredding volume.

Fuck your fucking dryer! I hope tomorrow is much better for you.

You can yell along to most of Frank Tuner's album "Love, Ire & Song" [SLYT].

I make terrible playlists so not going to attempt it, but this sounds like a situation that calls for Belle and Sebastian. Their entire catalog is first-rate and every song is like a compact novella.
(Though your laundry is surely hung, dry and possibly even folded by now.)

Response by poster: In fact, I was unable to hang up all the laundry yesterday because there was too much. I just finished the rest of it and hope everything will be dry and ready to fold tomorrow. I survived last night by listening to some of the recommendations, going to an online Al-Anon meeting, and saying fuck-it to the remaining laundry and diving into City of Girls, which I highly recommend. I will come back later to choose so-called best answers but honestly, everyone who made suggestions is the absolutely best in my eyes. Thank you all so much!
