Philadelphia Restaurant Filter: Outdoor dining?

I'm going to be in Philadelphia next week, and will be meeting up with friends to celebrate my birthday, a new job, and one of my friend's birthdays. We would like to do a nice dinner out, but outdoor seating is a must.

I'm thrilled to be celebrating! No dietary or cuisine restrictions, but I would like to dine somewhere upscale. I know the weather is going to be rainy, but we're prepared to endure it (and hopefully be under a tent at least!). Thank you MeFi!

One of my all-time favorites, Parc, is on Rittenhouse Square. They do have outdoor seating, but they also have french doors that make it kind of an inside-outside restaurant and a great place for people watching. Get the steak-frites!

The Continental is also in the Rittenhouse area and has a very cool rooftop. Kind of a funky retro vibe with an interesting menu. This place has three different levels, so I would call them and see if any of the doors will be open to outside or if they have tents up on the patio.

Happy birthday (mine is next week, too), congrats on all the fortuitousness!

We had a memorably delicious dinner recently at Le Virtu in South Philly, an extremely old-school Italian restaurant with a lovely tented patio. I don't know that it's upscale upscale, but it's definitely a nice dinner that you're splashing out on type place, not an everyday restaurant.

Normally I’d recommend Vernick, with some enthusiasm, but I haven’t been since the pandemic and I’m not sure what their outdoor dining setup is. Worth investigating, though (now my mouth is watering just thinking about it).

If you are into expensive Mexican food, I enjoyed a meal at Condesa a couple weeks ago, and they have an outdoor patio under a sort of roof thing that would be perfect if it’s raining. Brought to you by the same folks as the extremely popular Suraya, but you might find it inconvenient to get out to Fishtown for Suraya if you’re in Center City, and I don’t really know if they have any rain protection in their back patio.

Another place I haven’t been in a while but that I know has a lovely outdoor space is Talulah’s Garden.
