Really short trim with a Wahl Peanut

I bought a Wahl Peanut a month or so back to trim my beard. The shortest guard it comes with is 3mm. I'd now like to get a closer shave with it---more like 1-2mm. Unfortunately, no one seems to sell shorter guards, and there's apparently no way to adjust the blade. Taking the guard off completely gives a bit *too* close a shave! I can't return it, and I'd really prefer not to buy another set of clippers any time soon. Is there any way to get a closer shave with the Peanut?

Could you buy a spare 3mm Guard? If yes I'd do so and then just sand it down to a thinner guard. This would be like 30s work with a belt sander and maybe an hour with a sanding block. Use one of those sanding sponges to round the guard fins off after.

I agree with Mitheral, but I'd tend to do it by hand:
Take a couple pieces of sandpaper, and affix them (carefully) to a piece of hardboard/Masonite, smooth wood, plastic, etc. Super 77 works great, but it's toxic and can be messy. A liberal application of rubber cement would probably work fine as well... I'd pour it into a larger container, and use a 3" brush to put a layer down. After you have a nice flat sanding surface: Hold the guard flat to the surface and try to maintain even pressure while sliding it across in smooth strokes parallel to the tines. Reverse the guard after 10-20 strokes, repeat.. I'd say 240 grit might be reasonable.

Yeah man just grab some sandpaper, get a combo pack and use the heavy stuff to take off 1 mm, then use finer gauges to smooth it out. Make it work for you.

I just checked my Wahl Peanut to be sure, and the shortest guard/comb it came with is labeled "S-1" which corresponds to 1/8" or just over 3mm. So you're not missing anything.

Wahl apparently does make a "S-1/2" guard but only for their bigger clippers.

I would probably go with the sanding solution that others have mentioned, but if you have access to a 3D printer it is apparently possible to 3D print guards for the Peanut. Several people have models on Thingiverse, although they are mostly for longer lengths rather than shorter. But it might be possible to modify one of those files and shorten it down to 1/16" or whatever you prefer.
