Help me find this long-lost blog

A few years ago, I read a blog by an American man who had spent a year studying in England in the 1980s, and had taken his diary from that year and turned it into a blog. I’d love to re-read it.

It was kind of mundane, but also fascinating as a snapshot of the time - at weekends he would walk into town, buy a tape or record, bring it home and play it in his room with all his friends sitting round listening to it. They’d go to the shared TV room in the evenings; make and receive calls on the payphone in the corridor. Once, he took a trip right across the country to go and visit family friends (I think maybe in Kent or the Kent/London fringes?) but there had been a mix-up, they were out, he had no way to contact them, and in the pre-mobile age had to just give up and go all the way home again.

My memory of his exact location is hazy but I think it was a large town/small city in either the Midlands or North of England. I probably originally found it posted on the blue, but I can’t remember any specific-enough terms to search for it. In my mind it was a few years ago but in reality everything in my mind was a few years ago and it could easily have been 10+.

If it’s still around, I’d love to re-read it!

I love a challenge so hoped I could track this down but, unfortunately, had no luck, sorry. As a consolation prize, here are some other 1980s UK diaries I found on my hunt:
