I just opened a can of Goya organic low sodium black beans. It was very dry and the beans came all the way up to the top of the can -- virtually none of the usual liquid normally found in a can of black beans. .

I put the beans into the pan of food I am making, but have not yet consumed it. I started to have second thoughts.

Has this happened to you??

I have had this happen with canned black beans and I decided to toss them. Maybe they were fine, maybe they were not, but I decided beans were cheap and food poisoning is bad. I'm sometimes a bit fast and loose about food safety when it's just for myself, but this seemed weird enough I opted not to eat it.

I have not used that specific brand but have had this with different brands of black beans. One was very liquidy with seperate beans, the other had less liquid and the top of the can had beans all crusted together. Every now and then I forget and buy the crusty ones, so it was not just a one off. I prefer the loose ones but the crusty ones have always been fine. I just break them up, rinse them and cook them.

Dump. Not worth the heartache in the event that the can had a faulty or inadequate seal. Sorry.

I would save the food you're making and contact Goya customer service and ask them.

Sometimes this happens if the can has been "upside down" in my pantry. All the liquid was at the other end of the can. But if you've drained them out and there wasn't any liquid hiding, they are Spooky Beans and I would be suspicious.

Dump. Bad canned goods can carry very bad things.

I opened a dented can of white kidney beans recently, and it was all sticky white gunk. Looking carefully at the pop top, I saw that one of the dents had caused a tiny hole. Once I saw that, it was hell no straight in the trash

Whenever I use canned black beans, I always find that the beans are more dry than other canned beans and that they have often formed basically a lid of beans in the can.

I have no idea why this is the case. But from my experience, this is completely normal.

I would only be concerned if the can was dented or punctured, if it didn't seem like I was actually breaking a seal when I opened the can, or if the beans smelled rotten.
