Sunday in Denver with Tweens

We are in town with three tweens for a Lacrosse tournament. We have all day Sunday ( June 27 ) to do whatever we want. Our team hotel is in DTC and I have a rental car. I will drive an hour or more if it lets us do something awesome. Anything is on the table as long as it doesn’t involve long lines or logistical headaches. Give us some awesome things to do while in Denver for one day.

If the weather is good, I would definitely think about doing something outdoors. When I last visited Denver and had some time I went to see a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater and it was awesome even though I didn't particularly love the musician. There are also hiking trails and such near there if there's no concert, it's a beautiful area. Red rocks is less than hour away, but if you go farther into the mountains there's plenty more to do.

Probably a little more than an hour, but you could drive to Garden of the Gods and then check out Manitou Springs. Otherwise, hike around Red Rocks for sure. If it were me I'd probably spend some time in Golden ... it's very Old West and there are some good restaurants and fun shopping. After that you could take the long way from Golden back to the hotel, driving down good old Colfax Avenue.

The art museum is nice, particularly if their current exhibitions are appealing to you.

I would drive to the top of Mt Evans (over 14,000'). You may well see mountain goats and bighorn sheep. 1 hr, 40 min from DTC according to Google.

Seconding Mt Evans. I was just up there yesterday. Go early, bring rain gear just in case. There's a nice welcome center with restaurant, and tourist junk. Also plenty of hiking trails right there. Depending on how you go, both Idaho Springs and Evergreen are nice places to break up your drive/have a meal. Good luck, have fun.

The tweens are probably too old, but there are actual dinosaur bones and footprints here
with a nice view of the area as well.

The art museum is nice, and at least used to have a much larger Native American art exhibit than most museums.

If you decide to drive up Mt. Evans make sure you get a timed reservation in advance through Recreation.gov.
