High BTU

I have a window that slides open horizontally with a max opening of 20 3/8" width x 32 1/2" height. What is the highest BTU air conditioner that can fit in it?

U.S. if it matters.

I don't know the answer to the question, but if your goal is to get your space as cold as possible as quickly as possible, you should not in general oversize your AC unit. You should match it to the size of the space you want to cool. Oversizing (i.e. installing a bigger AC than is justified by the volume of the space) is counterproductive to your goal and causes other problems.

There are a number of 12,000 BTU "portable" models that should work (14000BTU by old method, 12000BTU by newer method). For example. Using one of this type avoids the width issue.
