Google Pixel 3 recorded a conversation?

My wife's phone (a Google Pixel 3) recorded a conversation without her doing anything intentional.

She was listening to Spotify on her phone at the time while connected by Bluetooth to a Divoom Timebox mini speaker. While she was listening, the speaker was showing a green message icon instead of the usual digital clock. She only noticed that the recording was made when she accidentally held the volume up button on the speaker for too long. This typically results in skipping to the next song, but in this case, the phone played back a conversation my wife and her friend were having a few moments before. She doesn't have any third party voice memo apps installed to her knowledge. Is there built in voice memo functionality in Android phones or the Pixel in particular?

Yes, the Pixel phones have a voice recorder app one could open accidentally.

She could have invoked the Google Assistant somehow if she was talking at the time, perhaps. It's certainly happened on other platforms. Things like long or repeated presses of a given button can do it too. It might be that there's a quick access thing for recording a voice memo.
