i have an old dvd case i'd like to cover with some minecraft fabric for my friend's son .. im good at hand sewing, but would prefer to avoid bc it seems time consuming .. but i have doubts about a fusible web solution that would be workable over the nylon ish material .. any ideas ?

I’d actually use hot glue. Made a template for the fabric with thin card, fold the fabric edges around that, secure with glue in back or maybe whip stitching around key edges, slide it right under that taped edge and hot glue the card backing to the nylon. Maybe don’t have card or glue along the spine side.

I covered a similar case (for collectable cards). I ended up cutting the fabric a bit larger, folding the extra under itself, and then stiching it by hand to the binding all the way around. Yourphoto looks like the same kind of twill-tape binding I had, and it sewed pretty easy.

Just keep it closed while stitching because that's the maximum stretch you will need. Start from the spine and set out to each corner, pulling it tight as you go. After you've sewn the top and bottom edges, then do the two ends.

I would use something like Mod Podge

cut the fabric to a bit bigger than where you want to cover. apply a layer of modpodge, and carefully push the fabric into it, starting at the spine. Once you have the fabric sticking smoothly to it and have pushed out any air bubbles, use small sharp scissors or and exacto knife to trim the fabric to just the right t size. Use a stiff paintbbrush to work the fabric cleanly into the corners and edges. Apply a thin layer of modpodge over the fabric to seal it, making sure the edges stick down, and you're good to go.

Spray glue would be my choice, if you can fold the edges under, and use a light hand on the glue.

I'd use iron-ons, which are basically hot-glued-on. I believe you can still buy iron-ons you can customize with your own inkjust printer.

If not spray glue, some other contact cement that you brush on both the case and the back of the fabric. I'd probably cut the fabric a bit big, then try to trim it with just enough left to push down and under the edge of that border thing.
