How to print a Word document with inline redlining

I would like to create a redlined PDF from a Word document. The document has been edited with Track Changes. I would like the printed copy to show the edits inline, rather than off to the right side. Is this possible? If so, how?

Microsoft supports two views when editing a document: the "Draft" layout shows both inserted text and deleted text inline. Deleted text is indicated with a strikeout and a distinct color.

"Print Layout" shows new text inline, but it places deleted text off the right of the page, with dotted lines showing the original location of the deleted text. Formatting changes and comments are also shown in this right-side area.

When I go to print the document, I'm given the choice of printing the "Document" (which prints a clean copy) or printing the "Document with Markup" (which prints the "Print View" described above).

Is it possible to get Word's Draft View into a PDF file for sharing? That is much closer to a traditional redline, and it's what I'd like to distribute.

I am using MS Word 16.47 on MacOS Big Sur.

Found this "Word 2013 Print Inline changes without comments or formatting bubbles" tip on Microsoft's Community site that should lead you in the right direction. Recent versions of Word for Mac should have the same options available that are mentioned in the answer from Suzanne S. Barnhill.

Best answer: I have Word for Mac open right now - there are lots of options for displaying changes under the Review tab. Click "Tracking" then under "Mark-up Options" there are options for which edits show up as balloons, and which show up inline.

I just tried printing my current doc to PDF with all edits shown inline, and it seems to work how you want it to work - the only problem is that comments don't show up, but I've run out of time now...

Marking this one resolved.
