Race Data by Zip Code

Where can I find race demographics by US Zip Code?

I'm looking specifically for racial demographics for Montgomery County, MD by zip code. I'm sure the Census includes the data somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding summary data, or even a place to download what I'm looking for. I appreciate any tips.

Go to "Profiles," search for Montgomery County, and you should be able to pull up all sorts of tables and charts. I think the one you want is called "Race and Ethnicity" on the right-hand bar, this will show you summaries taken from aggregates of the American Community Survey as well as the ten-year Census.

Also, I just saw that your question is about zip code - this is not actually how the Census collects data, exactly. See here for some information about Zip Code Tabulation Areas from the Census: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/geography/guidance/geo-areas/zctas.html

But the link I gave you above should give you the data you need, as long as you don't strictly need it to be by zip code.

Best answer: I'm looking specifically for racial demographics for Montgomery County, MD by zip code.

The nearest Census equivalent that I'm aware of are the ZIP Code Tabulation Areas [ZCTAs], which do not map exactly to the ones used by the Postal Service. From the Census' site:

ZIP Code Tabulation Areas are generalized areal representations of United States Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas.

The USPS ZIP Codes identify the individual post office or metropolitan area delivery station associated with mailing addresses. USPS ZIP Codes are not areal features but a collection of mail delivery routes.

The term ZCTA was created to differentiate between this entity and true USPS ZIP Codes.

You can use this map to see the ZCTAs that make up Montgomery County. If you click on one and scroll down, it will give you racial demographics. The most recent data seems to be from 2019.
