I am running OS X 10.3.9. Blank CD's are not being recognized or mounting on my desktop. Music cd's and dvd's both work fine. They show up on my desktop as icons and automatically launch itunes/dvd player etc. what should I do? thanks

Buy one of those dry cd-drive lens cleaning disks. The kind with a few tiny little brushes on it. I've used them many times to fix similar problems. It doesn't work all the time but for less than $10 it is worth a try.

* Try different media.
* Make sure you're using the correct media. An older CD-R might be confused by CD-RW media.
* Make sure you even have a burner. :) Check in "About This Mac" -> "More Info" and check under "Hardware" and "ATA." Make sure that it says something about burning being supported.

and get back to us and let us know what you've found.

Best answer: check in "system preferences" under "cds & dvds."
there's a checklist of what your computer should do when you insert a blank cd.
you may have selected "ignore."
