Looking for Guatemalan Last Supper (political piece)

Looking for a photo of the Last Supper - Guatemalan political version.

I have been spending the day with my mother and she harassed me into helping her find a photo of a painting.

An except from Ched Myers states:

"There is a painting by a Guatemalan artist, in exile in Australia that depicts the Last Supper against the political landscape of Latin America. Swirling around Jesus in the smoke-filled room is a vivid tableau; woven in and around the twelve disciples are military generals cavorting with high-class prostitutes..."

Apparently it is a great painting that will help them in some church thingy they are doing.

I have looked into both the author Ched Myers whose except was what my mother originally found. I also looked up exiled Guatemalan artists and similar paths.

Help Me!

I seem to recall seeing this in issue #61 of Adbusters. One of the article features three or four heretical takes on The Last Supper.

Reminiscent of an Israeli exhibit "Corpus Christi: Representations of Christ, 1855 to 2002." Dorry don't remember if the one you want is there.Exhibition Catalogue here

Best answer: There doesn't appear to be any obvious reference which indicates that, except for the Myers' Binding the Strong Man book quote, the painting you are interested in would be notably more famous than any of millions of uncatalogued paintings by talented amateurs or undiscovered professionals. You might consider directly e-mailing or contacting Ched Myers to see if he could give more information on the artist or painting. His current CV at Bartimaeus Cooperative Ministries gives a telephone, fax, and e-mail for him. Lists his street address too, if you want to stalk him...urr, no wait, that was a different question.

Or perhaps if you wait a bit, someone else can come up with a direct link. It's hard to make much of meaningful search just based on Last Supper paintings in the sundry search engines, as you have certainly already discovered.

Response by poster: Thanks for the Ched Myers link, I guess this is my only option now.

I am going to send the details off to mum. Hopefully she can manage sending him an email.
