Battery replacement for Mint floor cleaner Model 4200?

Is it ok to use NIMH 7.2 V 3000mAh battery to replace NIMH 7.2V 1500mAHh battery?

This is for a Mint Floor Cleaner, Model 4200. I bought this replacement battery on line. It says: For: Mint 4000 series,
Replace: Mint 4200
7.2v 3000mAh 21.6Wh

Thank you, Metafilter people who are knowledgeable about electrical currents and batteries!

I am not your electrician. I am not an electrician. But yes, that should be fine. I replaced the battery in my Dyson vacuum cleaner with a battery with more mAh than the official battery and have lived to tell the tale.

mAh (or W, same thing give or take a power of ten) refers to the capacity of the battery, ie how long a charge lasts. After market and replacement batteries often have different (usually) bigger capacities. The important thing is that the voltage matches.

The main things that would cause this to be a problem are a) different battery chemistry b) different voltage (which is number of cells) or c) a lower maximum charging or discharge rate.

The nice thing about c) is that for batteries with a similar design the maximum charging and discharge rates correspond with each other, and roughly with the size of the battery. So unless the old battery you're replacing is a special high-current design, and the new one is not, a higher capacity battery will work fine - it will last longer on a charge, but if you take advantage of this and run it for longer between charges, it will take longer to recharge. Which is sort of like you'd expect from a "bucket of energy" model, where you're refilling it from the same spigot as before.

Another data point. I replaced a dead dyson battery with a non-dyson battery with a higher capacity and have had no problems.
