Anyone know what happened to the-underdogs.org, and where I can find a similar site?

Best answer: From the Wikipedia entry:

As of March 21, 2006, the Home of the Underdogs website is broken due to the domain name registration having expired. Sarinee Achavanuntakul, during a rare public appearance on the site's IRC channel, related that this was due to credit card difficulties and that the domain would be working again soon. In the meantime, the site is still accessible via its IP address (http://209.120.136.195/[1]), but downloads and screenshots will be unavailable as the servers won't accept IP addresses as referers for those things (this could be fixed, though, by adding the servers' hostnames into your system's hosts file; see here for detailed instructions).

(I know this isn't an answer, and I apologize thoroughly, but holy crap, I just tried to get to the-underdogs.org in this very browser window before coming to AskMe. I wasn't going to ask about it, but dang, my curiousity has been satisfied.)

It's still broken here.

You can 'fix' it locally, by editing (in Win2K/XP) c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, and adding these two lines at the end:

209.120.136.195 www.the-underdogs.org
209.120.136.196 files.the-underdogs.org

That will let you download normally. It was smokin' fast the other day, since I was practically the only one using it. :)

Remember to take those lines out again in a week or so.

More from the Wikipedia entry:

As of March 27, the Home of the Underdogs website is located at www.the-underdogs.info (site does not resolve, use IP address above), due to problems in regaining the domain from register.com. Sarinee mentioned in the website's IRC channel that register.com couldn't contact her and she lost her password, creating the current situation. Negotiations over the .org domain are underway, but as of now the site can be accessed through the IP address.

Hopefully it will be back soon; the .info domain still doesn't work for me yet.
