Got your (cat's) nose

Kitten has reddish brown spots on nose, Google has been fruitless, what are they?

My latest foster kitten has these spots on her nose. They are reddish brown and irregularly shaped and appear to be furless. I've Googled incessantly for kitty skin conditions but they don't seem to match any images. At first, I read about lentigo simplex (a harmless condition found in orange, calico, and tortiseshell cats that causes freckle-like brown or black spots on the nose and gums) and thought that might be it -- but all the photos of lentigo simplex I've seen show spots on the pink part of the nose, not the flat part right above it. The folks who run the foster agency are stumped. I've been putting antifungal cream on it just in case it's a fungal infection, but there has been no change so far. Her sister with whom she is inseparable has no symptoms. Behaviorally, the cat doesn't seem to be bothered by the spots at all.

Does anyone know what this is?

Cornell has a veterinary dermatology specialty: Link.

There’s also a chance that a cat specific vet would know.

I would search Reddit for a veterinary health forum. Cats are BIG on Reddit, and someone there is likely to know. Take a few more pics to be more clear.

My friend’s cat gets that sometimes and she says it’s likely allergies, probably to her food. It’s something like having a runny nose. You might try changing up her food. If I can find anything more authoritative, I’ll send a link but for now this is just “my friend thinks.”

You can probably google as well as I can but I found this and while it doesn’t particularly support the allergy theory, it might be useful: nasal dermatoses in cats.

Our cats are prone to flea allergies and hot spots, one of them has what you're describing on her nose. Vet says it sometimes comes with the flea allergy
*anecdotal. Your cats mileage may vary*

do your cats go into the garden? or do you have ants in your house?

My cat gets something that looks just like this, and they are bug bites of a kind (I think generally ants, but occasionally mosquito?)

only one of our cats gets them - maybe the other cat is more vigilant about getting ants off her face?
