How can Americans watch The Great British Sewing Bee?
June 28, 2020 8:40 AM   Subscribe

I recently found the first season of this show on You Tube, but haven't been able to find any of the other seasons? What gives?

The Great British Sewing bee first aired on the BBC in 2013, with a similar format to The Great British Bake Off, e.g. Each episode features three sewing challenges with a specific theme. There have been 7 seasons. So why hasn't it made it's way across the pond like almost every other British show? Not even available through Britbox.

Is there some secret, sneaky way to watch BBC One in the US?

The Pirate Bay has magnet links for S03E05, S03E06 and season packs for S04, S05 and S06, if that helps anybody.

Sometimes good results can also be had by posting requests to r/UKTVLAND/.

The Sewing Bee subreddit has links to episodes: https://www.reddit.com/r/SewingBee/. As far as I know there is no official way to watch the show in the US (I, too, have spent a while trying to find one).

With a little further digging it becomes apparent that The Pirate Bay has working magnet links for all episodes.

You can watch it on BBC iPlayer with a VPN.

I'm interested too, if someone wouldn't mind MeMailing me. I have seen series 5 and 6 but would like to see the older ones. (If anyone doesn't know - there was a FanFare thread on MF for each episode of series 6, posted by EllieBOA.)

iPlayer only has series 6 at present, near as I can tell.

I was hunting for it yesterday and found S01E01 at Vimeo: here.

r/UKTVLAND/ (thanks, flabdablet) has S03E06 (final): here.

firefleet's link has all the seasons, including 6. People have uploaded a lot of other British shows to reddit, which can be found by googling something like "[name of show] site:reddit.com". I mention this because if you're looking for sewing bees you might also be interested in pottery throw downs et al.

Ooh, I would love to see this. Is there a good vpn people recommend for this purpose?

I would love to see it too, please? I'd go to the subreddit, but that would surely mean instant spoilers on the season just finished.

It is a great show. I have seen a few seasons and sporadic episodes on YouTube, but was sad not to be able to follow along in FanFare because I could not find the current season. Why the heck isn't it on Britbox or Acorn, at least (assuming those still exist). Anyway you guys this show is so great and Patrick should wear more kilts and his Ted Talk about sustainable fashion is good.

The post currently at the top of the subreddit is the one with the links. To avoid any chance of spoilers, just don't scroll down.

Does the reddit link posted by firefleet not work internationally? Works for me in the UK.

NordVPN works well for me. I, too, want the magic mi mail. Thanks!

With nothing the slightest bit technical done to make it happen, the Reddit link is working well enough for me in Australia that I will most likely soon be in a position to start sending memails of my own.

I've been using a free chrome vpn extension (setupvpn) for watching the "The Great Pottery Throw Down", and it works just fine.

All MeMails sent. Some ISPs block streaming sites, so you might get a 404.

I would also love to watch this but the link on Reddit is not working for me, unfortunately.

Response by poster: OP here. Glad to see so many of you are interested in this show. If you haven't seen it yet, I think you'll love the down-to-earth contestants and overall wholesomeness of the show. Please spread the word so Netflix or Britbox will consider booking the show.

It appears there are a number of nefarious ways to view the show, some pretty straightforward, some which may inflict malware on your computer.

Most of you may have received an email about at least one method. If you didn't, and want more info, email me. Special thanks to Lexica, my first respondee, and all others who had suggestions.
