Public group posts in my FB feed

Recently the Groups feed on my Facebook app has started showing posts from groups I'm not in (but that FB thinks I would enjoy, I guess?) The problem is that they clog up the feed and makes it hard to read the posts from the actual groups I'm subscribed to. Is there a way to hide these?

You can hide groups as they come up.

I use a browser extension called FB Purity (or Fluff-Busting Purity, I guess) that's pretty great for granularly hiding annoying nonsense, and I know there are extensions for multiple browsers. I used it on Chrome, and now that I've switched to Firefox for privacy reasons, I use it there, too. That said, I've gotten so aggressive with it that I also end up hiding a lot of things I'd probably like to see!

+1 for FBPurity.
Add to it the fact that you can give it keywords to search for (such as Trump, COVID, Kardashian, etc) and hide posts containing those keywords, it makes for a nice quiet(er) Facebook experience.
I definitely agree with @tapir-whorf that you can get pretty aggressive with it, and sometimes miss neat stuff, but that's a risk I am willing to take.
It's such a change that I had to remove FB from my iPad because it was SUCH a different and depressing experience than on my desktop.

Response by poster: Sorry, I wasn't clear. This is only happening on the Facebook app on my phone, and I don't have the ability to hide the posts.

I wonder if using a third-party FB app would improve the situation? I used to use a stripped-down, privacy-focused Android app called Tinfoil for Facebook, and I'm sure there are others out there (though choose with care -- read reviews, decide if the permissions they're asking for are reasonable, if there's widespread adoption -- there are so many sketchy apps out there).

You'll probably get more helpful responses if you tell us whether you're using an Android or iPhone (or something else entirely).

If you're on an Android, I know you can also access FB via the browser, and some browsers like Chrome allow you to install extensions like FB Purity even on Android apps. Not sure if the situation is the same for iPhone, but it's worth investigating.

Response by poster: Well, the latest update to the Facebook app seems to have fixed the problem! Who knows if it was actually a bug or an experiment that didn't pan out. Haha. Thanks everyone!
