What is this donkey nanny hat?

I saw some pictures of donkey nannies who carry lambs up pastures before they can walk. But in a couple of the pictures the donkey also has what appears to be a hat on its back. Do any donkeyologists know what this might be? It seems the wrong shape for a saddle.

Best answer: Definitely not a saddle. I’m no donkeyologist, but as a horse-owning human, I think that looks like a feed bucket; the flock (including donkeys) is relocating, so the donkey is carrying his dinner plate along with to the new location?

Best answer: According to here, the photographer was told it’s a cauldron.

Best answer: It probably is a cauldron/feed-bucket. Picture here where it is clearer. Not some essential aspect of this though as can be seen in other photos.
