Using an Echo Show as a baby/video monitor without timeout

I want to use an Echo Show as a video monitor for a camera for periods of time up to 1-2hours in duration. Trying to do this with a Blink camera doesn't work as the live view times out after 5 minutes.

This seems to be a common problem with using this device as a monitor.

I'm willing to buy a different camera (in the UK) if it won't have this limitation, or to hack the software in some way on the Echo Show. If anyone has solved this problem and can share their solution I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Have you seen Wyze cameras? They work well, are very inexpensive, and the company seems really responsive to consumers.

I bought one on a lark (it was only $20) and used it for a while. It is a good camera, and I built a weather-proof housing for it to be mounted outdoors. Available via Amazon or direct from the manufacturer.

The camera comes as a small cube, or the Pan model which can move back and forth. Both models do motion detection, but also can be used always-on. So do you just want a video stream, or something that alerts you on motion? Here is a Reddit conversation about that very question: https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/comments/b89g5k/v2_vs_pan_baby_monitor/ It looks like they all agree that it works great for a stream, but there are small caveats for the motion detection.

Response by poster: Thanks for the suggestion.

Some extra clarification:

- I want to do this for two rooms and I already own the echo show devices, so ideally a solution that can use the hardware I already have would be preferred. Specifically I would like to use the existing Echo Show hardware to view the livestream rather than any other device.

- Live streaming is important to me. Motion detection is not.

- As far as I'm aware, Wyse cameras are not available in the UK. I'll need to be able to source any hardware.

- From what I can see on the internet, Wyse cameras also timeout on an Echo Show when using it as a viewing device; although there are some varying reports on this.
