Filing for unemployment-MA

I was supposed to start a new job, but it has evaporated due to covid. I have questions about unemployment in Massachusetts.

I left my last job in Feb, for Reasons, without a new job formalized, but a strong prospect. I was offered and accepted a new job in March, which has since evaporated before I was able to start (it was first deferred and then I was laid off). I was never on payroll for new job. They are filing for all the loans and grants available (this is a small nonprofit), some of which require they keep all staff on at full pay. If I file, will it impact their ability to get these grants? The org will not survive without them (it may not survive anyway, to be honest) and more people will be out of work, and I don’t want to burn those bridges for professional reasons. To be clear, I don’t blame the org and don’t want to prevent them from getting the grants, but we could really use the money, and I can’t look for work since I’m now taking care of my small child fulltime so will likely be out of work for months.
If I file, do I list them as an employer or not? I never ended up working there and was not on payroll but I also voluntarily left my last position so typically that would make me ineligible. I was at my last job full time for several years so have paid into the system. Does this impact my former company? Does either my old or new jobs have to provide documentation?
If I file, is the unemployment based on my last salary or what would have been my new salary (they are very different numbers)?
Is this all just ask-a-lawyer territory?

AskaManager is answering questions on these topics here, including your specific scenario about leaving one job and the new job suddenly going away. Yes, you are now eligible for unemployment.

Also, you should apply as soon as possible. Massachusetts paid the extra $600 of Fed money on top of the state unemployment starting this week.

Response by poster: I know I’m eligible. That’s not my question. What I want to know is does my filing cause the org to lose grants that depend on them keeping employees, since I was never an official employee?

They have laid you off. If they haven't said "don't file or we won't be able to get grants!" then assume that you can file. They are more likely to know the ins and outs than you are, and if they needed you to not file they would have asked.
