Distance co-op or kid-friendly competitive Switch games?

My 9 year old and I live a couple of thousand miles apart. We both have Switches and Nintendo Online. We've already played a bunch of Mario Kart and Splatoon 2. What else is out there that's good and all of: kid-friendly; online multiplayer that can be limited to just friends; not a free-for-all (looking at you, Fortnite)?

my friends and i have been playing a ton of overcooked! it's surprisingly fun but works well if you have a discord set up so you can chat to each other.

stardew valley can be multiplayer, and isn't as expensive as animal crossing (though animal crossing is very fun too).

we also got through a lot of super mario bros u deluxe, and it's super kid-friendly.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (which yes, is pricey, but more compelling to most kids than Stardew Valley I'm finding).

My kids are playing Minecraft on the switch online with their friends.

Was coming in to say Overcooked! 2. My sister and I play it while on a phone call together and we usually end up laughing hysterically.

I'd recommend Diablo 3, it does touch on some darker subjects (angels, hell, demons, the undead), not sure if that's appropriate for a 9 yr old.

Minecraft Dungeons is coming out in a month, so that might be worth checking out, it's like Diablo and Minecraft had a baby.

We are playing cluedo and uno online so far which has led to much kid trash talking and smiles. The uno app is well done, combined with zoom/FaceTime for chat.

Also zoom has a whiteboard so my kid has been making up drawing games and doing art with her friends together on it. They played hangman and some inprovised code cracking games and that was as much fun as a polished game.

Seconding Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can visit each other's islands and hunt for bugs, go fishing, harvest fruit, etc. My kids have played with their cousin (us in Oregon, he in Colorado) and enjoyed it.
