Repair a baby blanket in Chicago

I have a blanket my grandmother made, two pieces of cotton fabric with batting in between, and it has ripped on the underside. I am looking for a seamstress/tailor/quilter/someone who knows what they are doing, ideally in River North, who can repair it so I can continue to nap under it with my cats. I don't want to do it myself because it is sentimental and I would like to pay money to have it done by someone with experience. Does anyone have recommendations? (Asking for a friend)

I think your best bet would to have someone replace the backing. Those are significant tears and mending them securely will cause more tears as the stable parts of the backing pull against the older, thinner fabric. If you don't replace it the older backing fabric will continue to tear and fray and it will need replacement eventually.

It sounds like something a quilter could easily handle. Just google quilting stores or quilting societies in your area and they should be able to direct you to someone who is skilled at this kind of thing

I think any seamstress could handle this. It’s so simple compared to complicated clothing alterations. Just find a tailor or seamstress with good Yelp reviews. Someone who does upholstery work (like making custom pillow covers and drapes) could do this too, and might be cheaper.
