Retaining podcasts/audio lectures?

Wondering if anyone has a process for remembering more of podcast/audio lecture material while driving?

I listen to a lot of podcasts/lectures, some that are pure entertainment but some I'd like to retain (like Hardcore history). I listen to these while driving mostly. If this was a class, I'd be taking notes and summarizing them later. Is there something similar I can be doing while I'm driving? I'm on iOS.

You could pause the podcast every now and then and restate what you’ve just learned, out loud. Having to put something into your own words cements it better in your mind.

Listen more than once, ideally sleeping well in between listening.

I don't like this approach, but it's perhaps better than nothing: I hit the bookmark button in Audible/Libby, and then make an effort to listen back and write up notes. I don't always do it, and sometimes I've forgotten what was interesting about the passage. I'd prefer the ability to dictate an audio memo and associate that with the bookmark. Audible and Libby are for audiobooks. I don't know if there are similar features in podcast apps.
