Did you ever bruise your nose and then get a cold?

How do you alleviate pain from a bruised nose while having a cold?

A few weeks ago I was playing tennis and like the super star that I am I managed whacked myself in the nose with my own racket. It hurt for a second and was a little sore for a few days but after that it seemed fine. Fast forward to this Wednesday and I started to get a cold, today I am at peak stuffiness and my nose feels as painful as the first few minutes after it received the racket whack. I assume that the head cold is causing some swelling that is pushing on bits of my nose that are still sensitive but anti inflammatory's don't seem to help. Flonase helped me be able to breath but almost feels like it made the racket whack pain worse. It's a pretty mild cold as far as colds go but the other pain while not unbearable is pretty f#$%ing annoying. I've got an appt with my PCP Wednesday for some unrelated stuff, I figure if I still have the pain I'll address it with him but in the mean time... any suggestions?

You can try ocean spray or other saline spray (or netti pot) that will help reduce sinus pressure and help any stuffiness move.

If you can get your hands on some real pseudoephedrine, the kind you have to buy from behind the counter at the pharmacy, that will help with the stuffiness. I hope you feel better soon!

Take Sudafed to dry out your nose. Proper, old-fashioned meth-level Sudafed.

Nthing the behind the counter Sudafed or generic equivalent. It works by reducing swelling in your sinuses. Saline spray can help the mucus flow as well.

Afrin nasal spray relieves nasal congestion better, IMO, than saline sprays.
