Asking for an HR professional: Looking for a diversity/inclusion course that is available online and which covers LGBTQ+ issues. There’s not a specific budget set aside but they are willing to pay for the right tool.

Best answer: I did diversity and inclusion consulting at a fortune 1000 org. I was tasked with finding training and.... I came to the conclusion that there is no good online diversity training.

That said, the best trainings I found talked about covering, cultural intelligence, or bias. Perhaps those will help in your search.

Best answer: I can’t recommend the Canadian centre for diversity and inclusion enough. Fantastic training with a many online components. I have attended many diversity trainings and this was the best.

Response by poster: There are logistical reasons why it needs to be online, for any future commenters. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Question, are you looking for training that is specifically about lgbtq topics.? Or, are you looking for diversity training which includes lgbtq topics?

Unfortunately I am no longer at the company I did this work for so I can't accessy notes and details but here are some big picture themes.

In the USA different states and the federal government require "diversity training". Some states, like California, include lgbtq issues in the list of topics. The training is very much "watch a video as these actors talk for ten minutes about not using offensive words in the workplace, including not using homophobic terms".

Pros: they talk about many real workplace issues. Cons : it can be boring and perfunctory.

Another type of training doesn't meet state requirements, and instead looks at big picture theories about diversity. Some say it's because people have not learned that other cultures act different, so they train you on how not to be rude in Egypt etc. Others talk about discovering the diversity inside yourself.

Pros: one size fits all. Cons: not specifically about lgbtq or any topics

The third kind I found is local providers. The local lgbtq center does lgbtq training. The local urban league does race-based training. Pros: very targeted. Cons: quality varies widely, and usually not online.
