Where should I go in NYC (Brooklyn or Manhattan) to get pectin? I tried a Bravo supermarket and Key foods in Bed-Stuy and they didn't have it.

(Assuming you mean pectin for making jam/jelly/etc ? )

Did you get some help from the folks working in the store to try and find it ?

Pectin at the grocery store usually hides in the baking aisle. Sometimes near the pickling spices/salts (the liquid pouches), sometimes near the jellos/puddings (powdered boxes), and sometimes by the sugar (both forms).

Other times, it hides in the seasonal aisle (b/c fall is canning season) or catch-all aisle (charcoal and motor oil, etc). So if it isn't with the baking supplies, look for where the canning jars/lids are, and it should be nearby.

I've also found hardware stores carry it - my Ace hardware store has pectin along with mason jars, lids, and canning starter kits (pots to do hot-water baths in, etc).

Yeah, no. NYC supermarkets not having things that seem totally basic elsewhere is definitely a thing.

I see it on the website for Whisk (Kitchen supply store with location near Atlantic and Court). I think they probably also carry it at Sahadi's [although its not listed on their website] which is on that block (and as you get to the end of the block moving away from Court there is a pretty decent Key Foods for a safety net for your safety net). There is a large hardware store (Bruno's) around the corner on Court closer to Boro Hall but they can be hit or miss stock-wise.

I will GIVE you an unopened jar of Ball Classic Pectin Real fruit Pectin. Best By Date is July 2020. Flat iron neighborhood tomorrow or union square/east village this evening.

Free. I still have most of the jar I have opened.

Won’t someone rid me of this troublesome pectin?

I hope that you can save bilabial's pectin, but if not, you can go to the Target at Atlantic Terminal (probably also other Targets).

The Food Bazaar in Brooklyn near the Broadway stop of the G train has the low-sugar and the regular pectin, Ball brand, and they might have Pomona's too. I think they also have Sure-Jell. I think it's with the sugar and up on a high shelf kind of behind a pillar. This is where I usually buy mine, a few jars at a time. They also have pretty good produce and a variety of less-common international foods, so it's worth a trip.

The bigger Food Bazaar on Northern Blvd is better and has a better selection overall, but I could not vouch for the pectin.

One of the larger Targets will usually also have Ball brand freezer pectin with their mason jars and canning supplies-- definitely had it at the big one at Barclay's a couple weeks ago. They sometimes have the regular Ball pectin but never the other kinds. You shouldn't count on Target, except they have really good sales on jars sometimes.

Brooklyn Harvest Market at Kent & N 5th usually has Sure-Jell.

Oh! I forgot! Crest Hardware on Metropolitan near Kellogg's Diner/G train also has canning stuff, but I can't remember if they have pectin. You can call them and ask, they are really nice.

Also I think Brickman's Ace Hardware on 3rd near Washington Square/NYU-- call before you go.

Are you asking for pectin or the brand name of a popular pectin? I ask this because if I went to a grocery store here in Toronto and asked where the pectin was I don't know if I'd get an answer but if I asked where the Certo was I'm pretty sure I'd be directed to the right place. Like somehow we know you use Certo to make jam but maybe we don't know that Certo is pectin if that makes sense.
