Please make this “smart” thermostat dumb as a rock!

This thermostat is making life difficult. Please help.

It’s complicated to program and I don’t *want* it programmed. Today it’s decided I should luxuriate in 62° comfort. I work from home, so “wake” and “leave” don’t really apply. I travel, I have sleepovers... my schedule isn’t programmed. How can I just turn it up when I get up or get home and turn it down when I leave?

(When I change it to “manual,” it simply shuts itself to OFF, keeps the fan running 24/7, and goes back to 62°.) This shouldn’t be so complicated! Thanks!

Response by poster: (Note: Maintenance has replaced it once and they don’t seem to know how to program it, either.)

Response by poster: One more: I actually have the FP800 but this is the only manual I can find. Thanks!

Reading through that PDF, I found the following:
To permanently override the events schedule while on vacation, etc. press the MENU button until MANUAL appears on the display. Press the up or down arrow button to set the desired temperature.
So, I would think all you need to do is press MENU until it says MANUAL, adjust the temp to where you want it and you're done.

Assuming this like others that I have lived with, pick a reasonable day time and night time temperature and schedule accordingly. If it forces you to schedule for leave and home, do so just at the same temperature. When you want things a different temperature, just use the up and down buttons. It should stay that temp until the next scheduled change. When you out of town, then use manual to set it down to 62 until you come back.

This is pretty much what I do, since we have grandma over to watch the kids part of the week, and day care the other part, but not on a set schedule.

We thought about getting a "smart" wifi thermostat that can adjust itself based on the gps location reported by your phone, but that seemed like too much work and too much money.
