Dressy shoes for problem achilles tendons?

I could use help zeroing in on dress shoes I can walk around in without setting myself back. The shoes most helpful are these bad girls, with solid, rocker-bottom soles and a lifted heel. I know I'm not going to find that in a dress shoe, but something with a bit of those qualities would be really nice.

This is a follow-up to this question.

I've been buying from Zappos lately, and have access to an Amazon Prim account. Searching around various brick-and-mortar stores isn't possible right now.

Take a look at Barking Dog Shoes - their reviews are very thorough, and the comments frequently have recommendations as well.

I suspect autocorrect is to blame and that the comment above is referring to Alegria shoes (yeah, my phone hates that word.) they have the rocker soles as well.

Hoka One One also makes oddly named shoes you might be interested in, although they’re not an answer to this specific problem. Just another sneaker option.

Aravon had a black leather Oxford with rocker soles that I literally wore out this year after putting in orthotics and having 8 years of regular use - I work on a campus, and packed them for travel. Sadly, I don’t see that style. They have several other dress shoe options, but check the fit for each shoe, as sizing varies a bit between styles.

How dressy? Dansko clogs have a lofted heel and rocker bottom and they offer some fancier styles (Mary Jane, boots, etc.). Birkenstock also makes some dress shoes with the Birkenstock footbed, which is orthopedic and great for all sorts of foot-related issues.

I swear by Vionic shoes. I’ve got achilles tendonitis, and they prevent flare-ups well. I find I need good, solid arch support that’s built in. Vionic is the only brand I’ve tried that doesn’t look “orthopedic”.

Danskos have worked alright for me. I like their pumps. But heels or heel lifts in general are going to be good while you're wearing them (assuming they're stable) and troublesome in the long run, so if you're wearing them often you'll want to make sure to do stretches (lunges and bent-knee lunges, for example) to keep the calf muscles from shortening.

If you don't need them to be dressy-like-dress, Taos are also fantastic for this. The Taos Encore is my go-to every day shoe.

Perhaps something from the Walking Company?

Maybe take a look at Fitflop too? There are more styles available on the Fitflop site than on Zappos fyi.
