24 hours in Quito

I'll have a spare day in Quito, Ecuador to explore, with no real plans. I've read the basic tourist articles, but always appreciate guidance from people who know the city better. In particular, a good but casual and ideally not super touristy recommendation for lunch or dinner would be great, but I'd love all the tips.

I'll be staying near Plaza de San Francisco, but can travel wherever.

CERES Cereal, Tostadas y Café, Avenida República de El Salvador (TripAdvisor)

A quirky latino take on our culture. I don't like breakfast cereal anymore so I didn't create my own bowl (¡Crea tu bowl!) but there's plenty of other food to be had there, or just get coffee. It's close to a big park (La Carolina), shopping, other restaurants, etc.

I really like Quito. I hope you enjoy dropping in, wherever you eat, whatever you do.

We were in Quito during the recent protests when most things (tourist and otherwise) were closed. We really enjoyed wandering around Parque La Carolina, with the food stalls and the botanic gardens there are much better than the travel guides give them credit for, if you like that sort of thing.
