How do I view several windows at once on my Mac?

I have always been able to view multiple windows at once on my matchbook air. But suddenly, something's changed, and when I want to view one of the open windows that's minimized in the dock, the current screen is whisked off to the side and I only see the new window. Not sure what I did to bring about this terrible state of affairs, but how do I undo it? I'm not talking about seeing all open screens in miniature. I mean I want to see multiple full size screens on top of each other. Thanks!

Are you in Full Screen Mode? That article will tell you how to disable it.

^ Agreed; the app you're restoring from the dock is in Full Screen mode. If you've been a Mac user for a while you may be used to the older behavior of the green button, where (typically) it extended the window to the screen boundaries, but didn't switch to this kind of screen-takeover mode -- Full Screen mode -- which is the newer behavior of that green button from Yosemite onward.

BTW you can still invoke the old behavior when you need to, but it's a little different now.

Response by poster: Yes, that solved it. Thanks.
