Need to find a restaurant in Orlando

We will be staying in a hotel on International Drive, Orlando on Monday night, meeting English friends flying in from the UK who will go on to the Kennedy Space Center the next day. We want to take them to a restaurant that is not a chain (like Longhorn or Carrabba's) and not overly pricey. We are carnivores but also like fish restaurants. TexMex, Thai or American are all good.

We want to keep away from Trip Advisor places or those with long wait times. A genuine "Mom & Pop" or "where the locals go" would also be fine. Needing some advice, TIA!

Best answer: Trópico Mofongo was very tasty when we were there on our Disney trip

I-Drive is not really a good source of local culture.

Tijuana Flats is an inexpensive burrito joint that was started by some UCF grads back in the day.

I used to take takes to Seasons 52. Locals often meet up in Ponte Orlando and eat there before clubbing.

Best answer: I’m a pretty big fan of Thai Thani near the corner of I-Drive and Central Florida Parkway, kitty corner to Sea World.

If you can get up to Sand Lake Road, at least it’s the chains that locals go to instead of the tourists. The Whiskey or The Pharmacy would be two non-chains in that neighborhood.

On I Drive, you might look at Café Tu Tu Tango. It’s touristy, but has a wide menu, and has the gimmick of artists working live in the restaurant.

A little bit off I-Drive is Selam Ethiopian & Eritrean Cuisine. It's not a chain and has really good food.
