Best non-Amazon price on spice jars

I need about 50 spice jars that can hold about 3/8 of a cup of spice. That's about 1.5 oz of spice, depending on density. Is there someplace I can get them cheaply that isn't Amazon?

They're not the cheapest, but Penzey's sells empty jars.

How much is cheaply, and do you object to all mail order or just Amazon?

All my spices are in mason jars; I’m guessing 48 Half-pint mason jars would run you about $40.

Michaels (the craft store) often has nice jars and other glass containers, but again, I don’t think you’re likely to get them for significantly less than $1/jar.

Specialty Bottle is the go-to for this stuff. They have small glass and PET jars for less than a buck each.

Bed Bath & Beyond and World Market are where I get my spice jars from.

Fillmore Container has 2 ounce jars for $7 per case of 24 and 4 ounce jars for $5 a dozen. Note that these don't include lids—see the "accessories" tab for options that fit. They have loads of other options including hexagonal or square etc etc.

I didn't look the the catalog for your particular specs, but American Science & Surplus often has great deals on small containers.

American Specialty Bottle is where we get out spice jars, as well as bottles for vanilla and other extracts, infusing liquors, and a bunch of other stuff.

Great prices, fast shipping, reasonable but not overwhelming variety.

I'm a fan of Penzeys but ULINE might be a good, less expensive option (about $1 each including lids, not including shipping costs though). You might also be able to find a local restaurant supply store that would be open to the public - worth calling around.

I got my spice jars from Nakpunar, a craft supply seller. In particular, I really like these lids, because they have the flip-top with small holes.

There's always AliExpress (marketplace of sellers shipping random junk direct from China), although depending on your reasons for not wanting to buy from Amazon, you may find AliExpress even worse.

Response by poster: Specialty Bottle seems to be precisely what I'm looking for: standard bottles that I can purchase more of in the future.

Thanks everyone!

Berlin Packaging out of Chicago has some offerings that overlap with, and some which are a bit more novel than specialty bottle.

Both companies just charge you real shipping costs, so I would factor this into overall cost if you’re reordering. I’ve used both and had no complaints.

It's up to each person whether they care about this kind of thing or not but the Uihlein family who control that business use the proceeds from it to impose their will on the Wisconsin area they are from and to support a wide variety of right-wing political causes. The OP doesn't say what their reasons are for preferring to avoid Amazon but if not supporting malignant plutocrats figures into their choice then they might wish to give ULINE a miss as well.

Fourthing Specialty Bottle. I’m glad someone else mentioned them because I can never remember their name and I call them “jars.com”. They will also have jars of various sizes if there are some spices you have more of than others.
