How to get health insurance for a month?

After leaving my last job, I'm going to have a gap in health insurance coverage of approximately one month. I live in Washington, so should I just enroll in Apple Health (aka Medicaid) and then almost immediately cancel, or buy some sort of inexpensive gap coverage?

Having had Apple Health previously, I recall it was surprisingly labor intensive to cancel, and I wonder if there are other reasons not to use it as short term gap coverage. If it's better to just purchase my own coverage for a limited time, I'd appreciate some suggestions for plans which are inexpensive and simple to sign up for and cancel.

COBRA? That is what it's for, to temporarily keep your previous employer insurance. I think it's also retroactive.

Best answer: Yes, it's retroactive. You actually have 45 days to get that first payment sent to the provider.

If you needed it during the month, send in your COBRA payment. If you make it to the new job and didn't need the coverage, skip the payment.

Best answer: If you decide to use COBRA as your backup plan,
1. check your mail carefully - I nearly through the COBRA offer as junk mail because it looked like junk mail
2. I've told that it is a good idea to fill out the form, write the check and put it in envelope ready to mail and then put that in place where you or someone else can find it and mail it in case there is a catastrophic accident.
