Which are the top CS colleges in Australia?

So just like the title says, which are the best programs. I'm looking for a master's in science. I want to do research but I'd also like a university that has an entrepreneurial focus as well as strong industry connections. I don't know much about Australian universities. Thanks in advance.

Considering that this is your second ask and that your first one was about CS programs in Canada, I'm starting to think that there is a bigger concern than just basic research on CS programs. I don't know where you're from (and that's fine!) but these questions are triggering a specific feeling that I've felt before which is "I want to leave the US for awhile, so maybe a grad program in another anglophone country is the solution." If my read is totally wrong, then of course, please disregard it. But I'm curious if there's something beyond just the fact that you would like to find potential CS programs in Canada and Australia because a lot of the answers you got in that thread would apply here, too.

No, I was just told my college counselor to look outside of Canada as well. I talked with her and some of the universities I looked at in Canada were in fact really not at all that interesting. Canada is still my first option, but I am being open minded towards her suggestion.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm after.

Could you tell us a little more about what you are looking for? What made the Canadian schools less interesting than you’d expected?

It's not that they're less interesting, it's just that they don't all have the sort of research I am interested in.

I still plan to apply to Canadian universities but not to the original list I used to have.

If you have specific research interests (which is a good thing to have as a potential graduate student!) it might be more expedient to find journals that cover those topics, skim through the institutions the publishing authors are coming from, and investigate those that are in your region(s) of choice.

I really don't know much about the various programmes and CS is not my area, so take this with a massive grain of salt, but from the perspective of someone who has worked in corporates who hire out of CS programmes, my perception is that Swinburne, QUT, UTS, and RMIT produce the top grads, skills-wise. Whether this carries through to masters-level programmes, I don't know. I realise that this is probably not much help, but as there aren't many answers here, maybe this can at least help you start your research.

To actually answer the question: UTS, RMIT, QUT and Monash are the ones that come to mind first. You should also check out the THE university rankings, and the Good Universities Guide. And of course the individual university faculty and school websites, as well as the profiles, publication records and supervision histories of any academics you’re interested in working with. Authority: seven years working in the Australian Tertiary Education sector. (Not as an academic.)
