Looking for music recommendations- the new sounds in Nerd Funk

I'm putting together a birthday playlist for somebody who's a big fan of Devo, Talking Heads, TMBG. Needless to say, I believe them to be pretty literate in the first wave/ 80s artists (Thomas Dolby, etc.). In Nerdcore, Postpunk, Indie, etc, what are some good new bands that are getting the funkier side of post-punk? I've got Lemon Demon and Bodega to start with, but what else can you suggest?

Definitely there's a lot of LCD Soundsystem that reminds me of Talking Heads.

Best answer: David Byrne is still releasing albums, both solo and in collaborations. Latest solo was last year. They Might Be Giants put out 3 last year.

Just new artists? Your friend sounds like me, in terms of musical taste. I hadn't heard Lemon Demon, but having checked out their latest album, it's definitely got some Oingo Boingo vibe (if Danny Elfman was supported by Queen on the vocals). I'll definitely be eyeballing this thread.

The Bird and the Bee is an indie pop duo which has an album called Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates, nearly all covers and 1 or 2 originals in the same vein. I think it's on the money. Their upcoming album appears to be Volume 2: Van Halen.

Chromeo is an electro-funk duo from Canada, making catchy-as-fuck synth music that would've fit into New Wave. They use a talkbox, fercryinoutloud.

Django Django is nerdy, synth-forward-- good music.

I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, formed in 2016, definitely carrying torch of Devo, Talking Heads, etc.

La Roux starts drifting towards synth-pop, but she's pretty funky too.

Yacht kind of reminded me of TH when I first heard them. I haven’t heard their later stuff so I’m not sure.
